Starbucks story of success


                With nearly 29,324 cafes across the whole world, Starbucks has become a giant company who sells coffee. It has enhanced from one single shop to an $80 billion business.in 47 years. Starbucks holds nearly 57% of the whole coffee market and it has 14000 stores in the US.

The start

              In 1970 three friends Zev Siegl, Jerry Baldwin, Gordon Bowker thought to get into coffee business and choose Alfred Peet as their mentor, who knows the whole coffee industry inside out.

             In 1971 they started a company and they managed to provide the customers the good quality coffee beans and they started 5 different stores in the US but it was not the time for coffee as a beverage in this time coffee used to make only in houses. So the company’s initial focus was to give the customers high-quality coffee beans.

                  In 1982 Starbucks hired Howard Schultz as a marketing and sales perfectional and the gave the idea to sell beverages 1983 and in 4 years later it was a huge success. Now Schultz won some shares in $3.8 billion and become a partner in Starbucks.

                 Schultz uses an aggressive strategy to expand its whole company that 1992 it has 165 stores by 1996  it has more than 1000 stores including many more international locations. Growth was too rapid that after 3 years it opened 2000th location.

                    From 2000 to 2007  the Starbucks growth increases 4 times more than 3000 to more over 15000. In every year the company created 1500 stores each year and the started 3B to 9B.

2007 crisis 

               But something goes wrong in 2007. That is the stock crisis in 2007 that decreases the stock prices of the company as well as sales and it has to close 300 and 600 cafes in 2008 and 2009 respectively. 

            This makes the company in a very bad condition people were thinking as an elite class of thing to go there and have a coffee but Schultz made another strategy that they have to close all shops to 1hour and make the employee learn that what is the best taste of Starbucks so consumer initially loved it.

         For that, they close all the automated machine and give the consumer the old style of Starbucks coffee that initially made them connected with the company. Then the sales and the growth made a rapid change and the company gain its original position in the market once again.


            In 2012 Starbucks growth was started in a huge way and only in 2017 it opened more than 2500 stores.
